Today’s hygiene standards demand that surfaces must be smooth and easy to clean, and that walls are durable, impervious and resistant to hard knocks. Traditionally, ceramic tiles have been used in food retail areas but now they are seen as unable to address modern demands for hygiene and durability.
Altro’s new semi-rigid wall cladding is designed to overcome the deficiencies of ceramic tiles in such an environment. Altro Whiterock can be used practically anywhere, but is particularly suited to areas where hygiene is of the utmost importance. Unlike a tiled surface there is no grout needed, so dirt and bacteria have nowhere to hide.
In addition, Altro Whiterock does not crack or chip, further enhancing the hygiene experience but also adding a far greater durability element.
When the new Foodworks store in Sydney’s West Ryde was being developed, the managers wanted an open and clean delicatessen for their customers to see into. They specifically did not want customers to see chipped tiles and dirty grout in their serving area down the track.
Asset Flooring, an accredited Altro Premier Whiterock Installer, installed the wall cladding.
“When discussing the project, we told Altro we needed a walling for the deli that was impact resistant and hygienic. We wanted something that would take whatever the store could dish out. The clean, smooth finish of Whiterock was a great alternative to dirty grout that can build up on tiles over time. Altro Whiterock has solved the store’s main problems, all within the specified budget.”

“The process in which Whiterock is installed allows 2 men to efficiently install the sheets with minimum fuss. The thick bed of adhesive and sheet size gives you flexibility to move the materials into position whilst improving productivity on site and ensuring program deadlines are met.”
