Over 65% buildings reviewed in South Mumbai
Mhada is currently undertaking its annual pre-monsoon review of cessed buildings in South Mumbai. Interestingly it has surveyed 68% or 9,000 of 14,500 such buildings already, and found that “not a single one of them” is in imminent danger of collapse.
The board has also set up a control buildings reviewed room with 24/7 helpline numbers to monitor any unforeseen disasters. The phone numbers are 022-3536945 and 23517423.
Addressing a virtual press meet Wednesday, Vinod Ghosalkar, head of Mhada’s Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board said the agency was well equipped to avoid any loss to life or property of residents during the monsoon.
Ghosalkar said 9,048 buildings out of 14,755 had been surveyed and so far, not a single one of them was declared extremely dangerous for inhabitants. Contractors have been appointed in all four zones citywide to take immediate redressal in the wake of danger or collapse. Arrangements have been made in Mahavir Nagar, Kandivli, to accommodate evacuees in 135 tenements or galas should an eventuality occur.
The survey of the remainder 32% cessed buildings will be completed shortly.
