New Wind Shape
NewWindShape , Netherlands-based crane designer Tetrahedron have collaborated to develop a dedicated feeder solution for the offshore wind industry called NewWindShape.Texas, USA headquartered jack-up vessel technology specialist Friede & Goldman (F&G) and Rotterdam,
The NewWindShape system comprises what F&G describes as “a relatively small F&G jack-up”, a Tetrahedron leg encircling crane, plus standard ocean barges. The system can be used to serve close moored, stand-off moored, and dynamically positioned feeder barges.
The Tetrahedron crane utilised is the Model 65, which can lift loads up to 200 metres above still water level and has the capability to install 20MW wind turbines.
The tetrahedron shape allows the crane to take increased side loads often seen with load transfers on water, said F&G. The Model 65 also has Tetrahedron’s Smart Hoist system for fast lifting speeds.
F&G said the system uses a unique ‘rigging-on-deck’ principle that eliminates the need for a heavy tool to clamp on the top-flange of a tower segment. That is important, F&G explained, because it eliminates the mating process of the heavy flange clamp onto the top of a swinging tower.
With Tetrahedron’s side load stability, Smart Hoist, and ‘rigging-on-deck’ principles, the NewWindShape can complete turbine component transfers without expensive active motion compensating systems, F&G outlined. For more information, please visit newwindshape.com
